Following
are steps you can take to configure the EyeP product; however,
please keep in mind that BroadVoice does not yet endorse,
partner with or support any specific softphone products.
BroadVoice utilizes network authentication protocols
for the security of your account. Therefore, you will need
to input where indicated the 10 digit BroadVoice authentication
password provided to you by a BroadVoice customer service
representative. It is intended to prevent anyone other than
you from configuring another device and making calls on your
account and at your expense. This password may be reset upon
request from you or by a BroadVoice representative as needed.
BroadVoice traditionally permits only one device
to be active per user account. Therefore, you must
deactivate/disconnect any other devices related to
the BroadVoice number you intend to use with EyeP Phone
Desktop prior to using the soft client.
EyeP Phone Desktop is a standalone application using EyeP
Media's ActiveX control. It provides you a graphical user
interface to place and receive calls from your Windows
station.
How to install EyeP Phone Desktop:
- Download the 30-day free trial application from: http://www.eyepmedia.com/download/SIP/EM/SIPeyePPhoneDesktop.exe
- Execute the downloaded exe file
- Launch the application from Start/Programs/EyeP
Media/SIP EyeP Phone
Instructions for the first BroadVoice
call:
The first time you use SIP EyeP Phone Desktop, you will
be prompted to configure it.
How to configure your EyeP Phone Desktop:
- Open the configuration window and enter your Name in
the ‘Name’ field.Enter the sip address in
the URI field with your 10 digit BroadVoice number, e.g.
sip:8605551212@sip.broadvoice.com
- It is strongly recommended not to change the Signaling
Port from the default (5060).
- Enter your 10 digit BroadVoice number as the user name
and your authentication password. Your authentication
password can be obtained by emailing support.
- Choosing your proxy
BroadVoice has seven proxy servers you can choose from. Try pinging all three individually and pick the one with the shortest ping time. Enter the proxy address in the 'Outbound Proxy Address' field.
Example
# ping proxy.lax.broadvoice.com
PING proxy.lax.broadvoice.com (147.135.8.128) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from proxy.lax.broadvoice.com (147.135.8.128): icmp_seq=1 ttl=47 time=41 ms
64 bytes from proxy.lax.broadvoice.com (147.135.8.128): icmp_seq=2 ttl=47 time=31 ms
64 bytes from proxy.lax.broadvoice.com (147.135.8.128): icmp_seq=3 ttl=47 time=58 ms |
Which ever proxy is closer (has a shorter ping time) is the proxy you want to use.
Choose one from:
- proxy.lax.broadvoice.com
- proxy.dca.broadvoice.com
- proxy.mia.broadvoice.com
- proxy.atl.broadvoice.com
- proxy.chi.broadvoice.com
- proxy.bos.broadvoice.com
- proxy.nyc.broadvoice.com
- On the network tab, un-check the 'Use NAT/Firewall
support' if your PC is behind a NAT (Network Address
Translation) or firewall.
- Complete the Network tab with the following settings:
- From the Audio tab select your preferred recording
device or let Windows choose by leaving on <use Windows
preferred device>.
- Select your preferred speaker sound device or let Windows
choose by leaving on <use Windows preferred device>.
- Depending on the audio device you are using, you need
only to activate the needed audio features. For example
for good sound quality, the desktop speaker use the Acoustic
Echo Canceller (AEC), Automatic Gain Control (AGC) and
the Voice Activity Detector (VAD). The headphones only
need the AGC and the VAD. A telephone handset only needs
the VAD. If you do not match the ’Device type’ with
the actual device you are using, the eyeP Phone will
work, but the quality may be reduced depending on the
mismatch conditions. For optimized sound quality select
the ‘Device type’ that corresponds to the
audio device you are using.
You can now make and receive calls
using the EyeP Media softphone client and your BroadVoice
account.

HOW TO DIAL
You can either dial the number from the computer’s keyboard or
from the eyeP phone’s dial pad.
Note: if you need to type letters or special signs, you only can do it
from the keyboard. There are two
ways to make a call: you can dial when the eyeP phone is ‘on-hook’ or
when a dial tone is rendered:
- ‘On-hook’ case:
Enter the number, click on the Call button or directly select one of
the Ready lines by clicking
on the corresponding Ready button. The number will be automatically
dialed. If you click on
the Call button, Line 1 will be selected by default. If you made a
mistake, you can correct it as
long as you have not clicked the Call button
- Dial tone state:
Click on one of the Ready buttons or on the Call button. In this last
case, Line 1 will
automatically be selected. You can hear a dial tone. The numbers will
be sent directly after
you entered them. Caution if you make a mistake, you won’t be
able to correct it. You will
have to start all over again.
When the dialed number is sent,
the call can be in the following call states:
- Proceeding: Trying to connect to the person’s
dialed number.
- Connected: The line is connected, you can talk.
- Dial tone: Once you picked the phone, you hear a dial
tone.
- Dialing: The numbered dialed are being sent.
- Ring back: You are waiting for the person dialed to
pick up.
- Incoming call: A call is waiting for you to pick up
the line.
ANSWERING AND HANG UP A CALL
To answer a call, click the ringing line radio button or press the enter
key. Note that if the eyeP
phone is in a minimize state, it will automatically restore upon the
first ring of an incoming call
Since it is possible to manage several calls on different lines, there
is no ‘Hang up’ button. Which line
should the ‘Hang up’ button close? To hang up a call, click
on the ‘Line button’ of the line you wish to
close. The line should display a connected state. You can also close
the active call by pushing the Esc
key of your keyboard. If it is your correspondent who closes the line
first, the eyeP phone should
automatically hang up.
